Tides: Highs, Lows and Everything in Between

Some days ago, my sister walked to me in the kitchen and was like: “These Children of Israel are the worst; I feel like beating them.

Why are they so foolish and forgetful? Which one is cucumber, flesh, blah blah blah.”

Yeah, she couldn’t contain it.

I giggled.

She wasn’t the first to notice how ridiculous those guys related to God. I’m sure you have noticed the same.

When I first read their story, I would ask those exact questions countless times, wondering why God still loved them.

But do you know we also react similarly to God or even worse?

Without proper heart caution, you too can become forgetful at every slight inconvenience.

Highs and Lows

Hiii, look who decided to show up today. If you are new here, welcome to Photizolife— the place of light.

I’m excited to write you today.

I’ll share some vulnerable things with you, so enjoy the ride.

I have been learning about the highs and lows of life’s journey.

Although both are inevitable, your response to them is a game changer.

I will describe the highs as those jolly ride moments without any seeming delay, trial or temptation.

In those periods, it is convenient for you to scream from the rooftop, “God is so good.”

That’s because your definition of God’s goodness is tied to material or physical blessings.

The Lows also come after a while; it starts feeling like God is far away. You suddenly begin to ask, where is God?

If you are honest with yourself, you will agree that it’s easy to forget all God has done in the past and murmur because of a present ordeal. The Israelite syndrome; it’s contagious.

Maybe yours is not murmur but worry and anxiety. I have been there; both are biological siblings of the same parents— unbelief.

I was listening to a sermon, and I understood the problem with the children of Israel.

They didn’t comprehend the integrity of God, their Father and His words.

They didn’t fully grasp that they were God’s chosen people and that he was in love with them.

You know that guy that loves a girl passionately, but the girl in question is attracted to another guy, whom everyone except the girl knows has an ulterior motive.

This guy keeps claiming to do things outside his reach for her.

“Babe, I will catch a grenade for you”.

You understand that kind of one-sided relationship.

The case between the children of Israel, God and those dumb idols was similar.

If those Israelites could see and believe God’s plan, their response to challenges could have been different.

When you lose sight of God’s love for you, you will be carried away by the tides.

While listening to that sermon, the Holy Ghost reminded me of His commitment to me.

God is a committed lover. He is committed to you.

It’s an insult to doubt God’s love.

There will be days you wake up and feel like everything is in your control. Other days, it may seem like everything is falling apart, leaving you with no clue.

Regardless, God’s goodness is constant. Your mistake is measuring it with the inconsistent happenings around you.

Next time, before you start to blame the children of Israel, make sure you are not the one throwing tantrums at the slightest challenge.

God is not better to your neighbour than He is to you.

Open your eyes and see the million little miracles all around you. Rest assured that God is devoted to you, and reciprocate it as much as possible.

Romans 8:32: He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Till I write to you again,

Stay loved up. (If that’s a thing)

Please, share this post, like and drop that comment below. It puts a smile on my smile. Best believe.

I love you, and God loves you more.

Byeeee!

  1. Yes ooo!!! We are quick to judge the Israelites. If there’s anything that’s helping me in this adulthood journey is my understanding that God is good not because he does Good things but because that’s His nature. So whether it’s in high or in low of life, my God is good!!!!

  2. God indeed loves me. This is all about me.I can’t forget how I thought God didn’t care about my welfare just because things weren’t going my way after my service year. I learnt during those low days and I saw and Appreciated God’s love for me. Thank you Som🥰,I’m encouraged by this piece

  3. I love this piece. It reminds of how much I just have to trust my father whether tides are high or low; to have an unwavering faith in Him because His love for me is unwavering.

  4. Yessss… When things don’t go our way, we tend to forget that God is good, and His goodness isn’t marked by the situation around us. May God help us to always remember that He is a good and loving Father, and He cares for us 💯 percent.
Thank you Oluwasom for this timely piece 💕.
